March 28, 2025

Whether you’re new here or have been following along for a while—I’m so glad you’re here. This space is all about sharing travel inspiration, insider tips, and meaningful ideas to help you plan your next adventure with heart and purpose.

Each month, I’ll be highlighting unique destinations, sharing expert insights, and bringing you exclusive offers—all designed to help you travel in a way that feels effortless, enriching, and aligned with your values.

At Petra’s Travel Studio, I believe travel is so much more than just a getaway. It’s about connection, discovery, and creating lifelong memories. I offer a boutique, personalised travel service tailored to families and small groups—whether it’s a carefully curated itinerary for your whole crew, or a beautifully planned small-group escape with like-minded travellers. From flights and accommodation to unique experiences and travel insurance, I take care of every detail so you can focus on what truly matters.

So, what inspired this month’s newsletter?

I’ve recently become a Certified National Geographic Journeys Expert with G Adventures—and I couldn’t be more excited to share what they are all about! This travel style is something truly special. Born from a collaboration between G Adventures and National Geographic in 2015, these journeys were created with a shared belief in responsible travel, cultural immersion, and global connection. Together, they built a collection of over 70 trips that offer authentic, meaningful experiences—at a much more accessible price point than traditional National Geographic Expeditions. These journeys are ideal for curious travellers who want to go deeper—not just see a place, but really understand it, connect with its people, and leave a positive impact behind.

Travel Deeper, Without the Luxury Price Tag

Immersing yourself in culture, storytelling, and discovery—guided by experts and locals—no longer needs to be reserved for high-end luxury travellers. Thanks to this incredible partnership, National Geographic Journeys bring that depth and richness to more people, through small group tours that are immersive, affordable, and unforgettable.

Some itineraries are designed with families in mind too—so kids and adults alike can engage, learn, and explore the world together.
This is travel that’s thoughtful, creative, and full of meaning. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts and help you experience one of these unforgettable Journeys for yourself.

National Geographic Family Journeys: Travel That Inspires Young Explorers

As a travel agent and a mum, I’m always on the lookout for experiences that go beyond a standard holiday—trips that bring families closer, create lasting memories, and offer something truly special. That’s exactly why I fell in love with National Geographic Family Journeys with G Adventures! I genuinely believe these trips are something every family should experience at least once.

Many families I speak to have never heard of these trips, and I get so excited sharing them—because they’re so much more than just another holiday.

Designed with Families in Mind

These journeys are designed specifically for families with kids aged 7 and up , combininghands-on learning, cultural immersion, and fun activities that make exploring the world a truly enriching experience for kids, parents, and grandparents alike!

One of the things I love most is that the experience starts well before departure. National Geographic provides engaging pre-trip resources to get the whole family excited, informed, and ready to explore together.

If your family is anything like mine, you’ll love that these trips include a mix of structured activities and free time—so there’s space for adventure, but also time to take it all in at your own pace. And there’s no need to stress about logistics, safety, or planning every little detail—it’s all taken care of!

And the bonus? You’ll be travelling with other like-minded families, which means the chance to make new lifelong friends. How epic is that?

  • Culturally immersive – Get up close with local traditions, food, history and stories—all thoughtfully guided by a CEO (Chief Experience Officer) trained by National Geographic. These aren’t surface-level tours. You’ll leave with a real understanding of where you’ve been.

  • Travel that gives back—globally and locally – When you travel on a National Geographic Journey, you’re supporting two incredible missions:
    • Planeterra, the non-profit partner of G Adventures. It develops and supports community-owned enterprises across the globe. Through Planeterra, millions of dollars have gone into projects in social enterprise, conservation, healthcare, and emergency response, with over 100 project partners in more than 40 countries.
    • The National Geographic Society, which funds scientists, researchers, and educators working to protect cultures, preserve ecosystems, and expand our understanding of the planet. A portion of every Journey supports these efforts, helping explorers make a real difference around the world.

Every National Geographic Journey supports long-term change—for travellers, locals, and the planet. When you choose one of these tours, you’re not only exploring—you’re making a genuine impact.

How To Book & Make It Happen

If a National Geographic journey feels like a dream but maybe a stretch right now, here are some creative ways to make it happen for your family:

  • Gift Travel Over Gadgets Swap out toys and tech for travel memories. A big birthday or Christmas can become the trip that’s never forgotten.
  • Make It a Family Saving Goal Start saving together and turn the journey itself into part of the adventure! It’s a beautiful way to show kids that working towards a big goal is worth it.
  • Ask Loved Ones to Contribute Instead of more “stuff,” ask family and friends to chip in towards your travel fund. It’s meaningful, practical and creates lifelong memories.
  • Encourage Kids to Fundraise A lemonade stand, garage sale, or bake stall—let your kids play a part in making their dream trip a reality. They’ll be even more proud when they get there.
  • Take Turns with Family Travel One of my favourite ideas? A friend of mine takes each of her children on a one-on-one international trip of “their” choice. The quality time is next level, and it’s often much more achievable than taking the whole family at once.

These aren’t just travel tips—they’re real ways to create connection, wonder and learning that lasts far longer than a week away. I want to encourage you to explore the world in a way that truly means something.

I’m here to help you find the right trip for your travel style and interests—whether it’s trekking the Inca Trail, exploring the magic of Morocco, or uncovering the wonders of Southern Africa. Sources
