About Petra

How It Started

I was ten when I crossed my first border.

Growing up in communist Czechoslovakia, our holidays were simple: skiing in winter, hiking in summer, always surrounded by cousins, friends and family. But the moment I stepped into neighbouring Austria after the borders opened, something shifted. A whole new world revealed itself — and I haven’t stopped traveling since.

From building a mud house in rural Kenya with my bare hands — a gift to myself for my 40th birthday — to waking up in an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora, I’ve experienced travel at its rawest and most luxurious. I’ve wandered through Bali’s rice fields with a bandaged leg after a motorbike crash, skydived through New Zealand’s skies, and shared tea in the slums of Phnom Penh with a Cambodian royal dedicated to change.

I still remember the goosebumps climbing an active volcano in Italy with my classmates — my very first expedition.

But what stays with me isn’t the places.

It’s the feeling.

The joy. The wonder. The perspective. The gratitude.

Travel has humbled me, stretched me, and filled my life with stories no photo could ever capture.

It’s given me everything — confidence, connection, lifelong friendships and unforgettable family memories.

It’s shaped who I am: a mother, a businesswoman, and a curious, compassionate global citizen.

When I was 21, I packed my bags and moved across the world to Australia — a country I now proudly call home. From the wild coastlines and ancient landscapes to the laid-back culture and unique wildlife, I’ve spent over two decades discovering its magic.

I love showcasing Australia through the eyes of someone who still sees it with wonder — and I love creating custom itineraries for international travellers who want to go beyond the obvious and experience it like a local.

Why I Created Petra’s Travel Studio

When we lost almost everything after COVID, I had two choices: play it safe, or start again with intention. I chose to build something deeply meaningful — a place where stories are shared, journeys are designed with purpose, and travellers walk away changed.

I imagined a big round table. A travel “studio” where ideas come alive. A creative space where planning a trip feels exciting, supported, and soul-filling — not stressful or overwhelming.

Somewhere you can ask:
“What if we did something different this time?”
“What else is possible?”

Because this is what I know for sure:
The best trips always have a little fear in them — a flicker of the unknown. That’s where the magic happens.

Travel as Education

As a passionate Montessori mum of three, I see travel as one of the greatest tools we have to raise independent, curious, compassionate humans.

We’ve travelled to over 20 countries as a family — sometimes with backpacks, sometimes in five-star hotels. My kids have experienced diverse cultures and environments, from wild animals to wild cities, other languages and other ways of living.

They’ve seen the world — and learned how to move through it with respect and wonder.

That’s what travel gives children. Not just a break from school, but a lifelong foundation of real-world knowledge and connection.

Beyond Me — Studio Vision

While Petra’s Travel Studio started as a personal project, the long-term vision is to grow a values-led team — kind, curious professionals who care deeply, listen well, and always overdeliver.

I want this to become a true travel studio in every sense — a space where creativity flows, ideas are shared, and clients feel genuinely looked after. A collective that designs travel with heart and plans with purpose.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not about who booked the trip. It’s about how you felt while living it.

If this resonates, reach out and let’s grow together.
